AW11. INSPIRATION NOTES.
This season we were inspired by the artist Jaap De Vries’ “The Cutting Table 2” and the layering of different materials and mixed media used. We combined fur and leather into a luxurious reversible jacket and also mixed mesh with silk.
By slashing and cutting fabrics, it exposed another texture underneath such as sliced inserts of leather cut into suiting and sheer pieces. We used this technique to explore contrasts in lengths and create a newer longer proportion but allowing it to feel light by cutting into hems and slashing slits.
The use of raw seams and hems in a finished garment formed deconstructed tailoring. Hammered metal piercings hold a sheer viscose gauze shirt with leather placket in place. We allowed leather to transform by draping and wrapping it on a dress and also filling it with goose-down to recreate the puffer jacket.
